Cost of Living & Taxes
Iowa City, Coralville, and North Liberty all enjoy a low cost of living. View a chart to compare our communities to other U.S. cities. Iowa’s personal income tax system has 9 tax brackets, ranging from 0.36% to 8.98%. The tax is imposed on the Iowa net income of individuals, estates, and trusts.

Finding a Place to Live in Iowa City
Housing in Iowa City can be tricky. We suggest living in Iowa City near campus or near a bus stop (Cambus or Iowa City bus). As you search for apartments, please note that landlords should not charge more than two months rent for a deposit. The University of Iowa also compiles some housing options on its website – this includes units and roommate searches. The University also compiles some other housing resources.
